Editorial Policy

How we choose what appears on News into Action.

News into Action is committed to connecting users with credible, factual news sources and trustworthy advocacy organizations. Our editorial standards are grounded in established third-party rating systems and adherence to our .

Our Standards

News Source Selection

We surface articles only from sources rated Highly Factual or above by Media Bias Fact Check (MBFC). Sources rated "Questionable" by MBFC are excluded regardless of political orientation.

Each article card displays the source's MBFC bias rating — Left, Left-Center, Center, Right-Center, or Right — so users can see the political lean of what they're reading. We aim to present a cross-partisan range of sources on each issue.

As we build out our source pipeline, we are currently prioritizing two types of content we can display in full: 1. Articles from outlets that publish under Creative Commons licenses, which we republish directly and are glad to support, and 2. YouTube videos, which we embed from their original source and which give us access to a wider range of political viewpoints. As News into Action grows, we intend to pursue licensing agreements with additional outlets to broaden the range of factual, bias-rated sources available across media.

Advocacy Organization Selection

We use two primary tools to evaluate advocacy organizations before featuring their action opportunities:

  • Media Bias Fact Check (MBFC) — where a rating exists, we exclude any organization rated "Questionable." MBFC coverage of advocacy organizations is less comprehensive than its news source coverage; we apply it where available.
  • Charity Navigator — we do not feature organizations with fewer than three stars where a rating exists.

Many advocacy organizations do not yet have ratings on either platform. In those cases, we apply editorial discretion, evaluating organizations against our core criteria:

  • Actions are grounded in evidence and factual information
  • The organization and actions support our
  • The organization does not engage in or promote violence, voter suppression, or disinformation

Cross-Partisan Balance

News into Action is cross-partisan. We actively seek to include credible voices and organizations from across the political spectrum. We do not exclude sources or organizations based on political orientation alone — only on factual credibility and ethical conduct.

Candidate Endorsements

News into Action does not endorse political candidates. We will decline requests to feature content that explicitly promotes or opposes a candidate for elected office, regardless of party.

Updates and Corrections

Our source and organization lists will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. If a source or organization receives a new MBFC or Charity Navigator rating that no longer meets our standards, we will remove them. If you believe a source or organization we feature does not meet our criteria, we welcome your feedback at info@newsintoaction.org.

Disclaimer

News into Action strives to provide a variety of viewpoints for educational value. Inclusion of a news source or advocacy organization on News into Action does not constitute endorsement of that organization's broader positions, affiliations, or activities — only that they meet our editorial policy criteria at the time of review.
